Sid Vicious, real name Sid Eudy, passed away on August 26, 2024, at the age of 63 after a battle with cancer. Harvey Wippleman recently reflected on how his former on-screen ally helped him get a job in WWE.

In 1987, Sid Vicious debuted as the masked Lord Humungous character in Continental Championship Wrestling (CCW). The six-foot-nine star was inexperienced and only landed the role because Wippleman recommended him.

Speaking to Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter, Wippleman recalled how Sid Vicious repaid the favor by suggesting him as a WWE manager in 1991:

"He got booked there [CCW]. I don't take credit for that. I opened the door for him, he came in. I mean, if he would have been terrible or two left feet or whatever, they wouldn't have kept him. All I did was open the door. Well, anyway, long story short, it's possible at this point, years later when he went to WWF [WWE], he opened the door for me. Full circle." [8:23 – 8:44]

Harvey Wippleman paid tribute to Sid Vicious

In the 1990s and early 2000s, Sid Vicious was one of the biggest names in wrestling. Also known as Sid Justice and Sycho Sid, he won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship twice and the WWE Championship twice.

Wippleman, Sid's former manager in WWE, offered his thoughts on the two-time WrestleMania main-eventer's passing:

"In a way, it was a blessing that Sid passed in his sleep overnight rather than suffering, hollering out in anguish or whatever, so if he had to go he went the best possible manner, and I believe that's the way all of us that care about him look at it." [10:26 – 10:42]

Wippleman recently attended a visitation before Sid's funeral service. Asked what he would name a book dedicated to his friend's life, the 58-year-old replied, "The Man Who Ruled The World."
