It has not been a good year so far for several wrestlers, including former WWE Superstar Matt Cardona aka Zack Ryder, who recently suffered an injury during a match. The Indy God has now shared an update on his social media.
Following his departure from the Stamford-based company, Cardona made a name for himself on the independent circuit, making appearances on several wrestling promotions and winning a plethora of championships. The former Zack Ryder also competed in AEW a couple of weeks back, where he answered Adam Copeland's Open Challenge.
In an unfortunate turn of events, Cardona tore his pec during a recent match. The former Long Island Iced Z recently took to X/Twitter to provide more details about his injury. He further noted that he would be open to making appearances despite not being medically cleared to compete in a wrestling match:
"I tore my pec in a match on Saturday. I’ll be getting surgery. There is no good time to get injured…but this certainly isn’t a good time. I have to keep moving forward…there’s no other option. I can’t wrestle but I’m still available for autograph signings and appearances. I’m #AlwayzReady for a comeback!" wrote Cardona.

Former champion believes Matt Cardone will return to WWE
Matt Cardona was one of the crowd favorites during his time in WWE. He was released from his contract in 2020 after he had been with the Stamford-based company for over 15 years. During his run with the promotion, the 38-year-old had multiple Intercontinental and United States Championship reigns. He also won the Tag Team Championship twice.
Speaking on the INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet podcast, Cardona's wife, Chelsea Green, revealed she wants to team up with The Indy God inside the WWE ring. The former Women's Tag Team Champion believes her husband will eventually return to his former promotion:
"I am patiently waiting. Because not that I want to be partnered up with him [Matt Cardona] in WWE. That would be great. I think we could have an amazing mixed match, tag team division, whatever it is. But I don’t know. I don’t know why, I would love to know why. I would love to be a fly on the wall of kind of like the meetings of the top guys in WWE. But I do feel like in my heart of hearts, it’s only a matter of time, it feels crazy that he wouldn’t be," she said.
Chelsea Green made a surprise return during the 2023 Women's Royal Rumble match for a second stint with the wrestling promotion. She went on to win the Women's Tag Team Championship last year before losing to Katana Chance and Kayden Carter in December 2023. It remains to be seen if her husband will follow suit.
