Former WWE Champion doesn't think Hulk Hogan getting booed is "that big of a deal"

One of the surprising moments of RAW's debut on Netflix was Hulk Hogan getting booed out of the Intuit Dome. However, former WWE Champion Rob Van Dam downplayed the reaction from the Los Angeles crowd and described the moment as something that's not significant.

Before Monday's episode of RAW, WWE announced a partnership with Hogan's Real American Beer brand. The Hulkster then appeared late on the show to promote his beer and hyped the crowd with his usual enthusiastic promo.

But LA fans had other ideas, drowning out Hogan's promo with a chorus of boos that many celebrated online. However, not all people thought it was a "big deal" including WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam.

"Hogan, he’s controversial and quite possibly the most recognizable celebrity on the planet, so I get where that’s hot, but they light him up, and they let him cool down, light him up, lights himself up, he cools down. He goes through cycles always and always seems to dig himself back out mostly and then bury himself again. ... I don’t see how it’s that big of a deal. I'm confused by it a little bit," Van Dam said. Hulk Hogan was once banished by WWE after his racist comments from a leaked tape in 2007 that surfaced eight years later. Hogan was eventually brought back in 2018 and has been making sporadic appearances ever since.

Gabriel Iglesias comments on Hulk Hogan's negative reception in Los Angeles

One of the celebrity guests on RAW's premiere on Netflix was comedian and actor Gabriel Iglesias. Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show late last week, Iglesias was asked about his reaction to Hulk Hogan getting booed out of the building last Monday.

"It was painful watching Hulk Hogan get booed. I was like, ‘Wow.’ From great to hate. That was ugly. At the same time, WWE should have known better. You know that Hulk Hogan has been out there on this political train trying to sell his beer and on the Trump train. You take somebody like that and you put them in a blue state in L.A., what else was going to happen? That might be the reaction," Iglesias said. [H/T Fightful]

It will be interesting to see whether WWE brings back Hogan on television after what happened on Monday. Maybe he'll get a better reception in a red state like Texas or Florida.
