A WWE legend has pitched the idea of returning to the Stamford-based promotion and then potentially retiring CM Punk. Jeff Hardy also commented about possibly entering the WWE Hall of Fame upon his return to the company.
Hardy and Punk are no strangers to each other. The two had a memorable rivalry in 2009 that's considered one of the greatest feuds in wrestling history. The duo had a series of incredible matches, including the unforgettable SummerSlam 2009 clash, that is still etched in fans' minds. Now, Jeff Hardy, whose last WWE stint ended in December 2021, has commented on another possible showdown with CM Punk down the line that could get the fans buzzing.
During his appearance at the HOG Live event, The Charismatic Enigma explained that he was keen to return to WWE and get inducted into the Hall of Famer. Hardy then went on to pitch a dream rematch with Punk, saying he would like to be The Second City Saint's final opponent before the latter called it quits on his in-ring career:
"Ultimately, man, I'd like to do a really cool match in the WWE and do the Hall of Fame and all that stuff to really end it on the highest note possible. Because looking back at my career now, the history is just a glimpse, like a blink of an eye, when you achieve so much and then you're here at this point, older in life. So it'd really be special to have a killer match, maybe make CM Punk retire, and then, go into the Hall of Fame," said Jeff Hardy. [H/T - Fightful Wrestling]
CM Punk is currently feuding with Seth Rollins in WWE
With RAW moving to Netflix next year, WWE has put up a blockbuster card for the show's debut episode on the global streaming giant on January 6th, 2025. One of the matches slated for the event is the highly-anticipated clash between CM Punk and Seth Rollins. Fans were stunned by the announcement as many expected the company to save the marquee contest for a stage like WrestleMania 41.
While Rollins and Punk are sure to give it their all, there's a chance the promotion goes ahead with a controversial finish to the match to keep the feud going. Considering The Second City Saint had a months-long story with Drew McIntyre that spanned multiple chapters, he could have a similar rivalry with Rollins as well.
