Stone Cold and The Undertaker are two of the biggest superstars in WWE history. They both are a common pick among fans to be on wrestling’s Mount Rushmore. A former WWE manager has now recalled a backstage moment involving the two legends.
Dutch Mantell is a veteran wrestling manager, and has worked for many major companies including WWE, WCW and IMPACT, over a career that has spanned over 5 decades. He currently hosts the “Story time with Dutch Mantell” podcast on Youtube.
Speaking on the same podcast, Mantell recalled an incident from his time working with the two Hall of Famers during their time at USWA. Mantell was asked about the incident, but he denied he was the one who presented the idea, and it was instead The Deadman’s decision to test out Austin in the ring.
“No, I didn’t tell him (Austin) to test The Undertaker one day. Undertaker tested Stone Cold, was what it was. We were at a little spot show... 150 people there, I’m standing in the corner, and they squared off with each other, and I remember 'taker saying he was going to test Stone Cold,” Said Mantell. He further described the incident that took place in the ring, and also recalled how the two laughed about it backstage.
“They start rolling around on the mat, all of a sudden, they go from this working match, where the people were at least cheering a little bit, to like, a semi shoot, and the people are looking at each other 'like what the hell!!' They rolled around on the mat, and finally, I think Undertaker was on top of him or something, but finally I said 'Ok Mark, let him up…you’re killing the whole match,' and he let him up and they started working then, and went back to the dressing room, they just laughed about it and moved on,” said Dutch. Undertaker makes an appearance on WWE NXT
The Deadman has not made an appearance on WWE television for a while, but made a surprise appearance at NXT on Tuesday night. He made his way to the ring to confront Bron Breakker, who was going after John Cena after a disappointing loss to Carmelo Hayes.
The Phenom then cut a promo on the second generation wrestler, and said he needed an attitude change if he wants to do his talent justice. While there was nothing to suggest this was anything more than a one-off appearance, fans of The Deadman are hoping this leads to further appearances.
