Former WWE Superstars often look back on their runs with fondness, especially their championship reigns. One fan-favorite has turned some heads in the WWE Universe this weekend after making surprising remarks on a notable title run.

Kaitlyn signed her first WWE developmental contract in July 2010. She remained with the company until January 2014 and later made brief returns in 2018 and 2019. The NXT Season 3 winner captured the Divas Championship from Eve Torres in January 2013 at the RAW 20th Anniversary special and held the title for 152 days until she was dethroned by AJ Lee at Payback 2013.

The Powerhouse Diva recently appeared on Developmentally Speaking and revealed that the title run did not fulfill her in the way she had hoped. She was looking to feel something similar to what she felt when won the National Physique Committee's John Sherman Classic Bodybuilding Figure & Fitness Championship in 2007.

"Towards the end of my title run, having the title... it didn’t fulfill me in the way I had hoped for it to fulfill me. I was seeking something, just like I was seeking that if winning in bodybuilding would give me this feeling. It was that same thing... will having a title give me this feeling of self acceptance, love for myself, feeling actual success? It did in ways, but it wasn’t that deep feeling I was looking for," Kaitlyn said.

Kaitlyn continued:

"So I got really depressed from that. If not this, then what? What is it that I’m looking for? What is it that going to fulfill this aspect of me that’s empty or unfulfilled. That was kind of like an awakening for me, all of this glitz and glam and TV and making more money and getting the title and getting respect, it didn’t give me that feeling of satisfaction I wanted and that felt sad. It made me feel sad, it made me feel depressed," Kaitlyn said. [H/T to Fightful]

Kaitlyn recalled how she began to realize she didn't want the lifestyle that came with living on the road. She was having a lot of inner conflict, which led to weight gain, and that led to her asking for her release. She also expressed frustration over not having a match on the WrestleMania 29 card despite being champion.

Kaitlyn open to a WWE return

Kaitlyn has not wrestled since returning to WWE for two matches in 2018 during The Mae Young Classic. However, she is still open to working with the company.

The Hybrid Diva's four-year run with WWE ended in 2014. She was brought back in 2018 for The Mae Young Classic, where she defeated Kavita Devi in the first round but then lost to Mia Yim in the second round. She recently told Bryan Asbury of Developmentally Speaking that she is open to returning to the ring.

"I think it would be cool to do something at some point. I'm in the best shape ever physically now. I actually went, not last year, but the year before [to the Royal Rumble], I think. WWE called me to come out. I ended up not doing anything on the show, but I'm open to it," Kaitlyn said.

Before her release in 2014, Kaitlyn's final match came on January 7, 2014, at the pre-RAW tapings for WWE Main Event. She was defeated by longtime rival and partner AJ Lee.
