Cody Rhodes became the Undisputed WWE Champion at WrestleMania XL after winning the 2024 Men's Royal Rumble Match. Meanwhile, former WWE Superstar Ricardo Rodriguez recently recalled playing a major role in taking down The American Nightmare at the 2012 Royal Rumble, held on January 29th in St. Louis, Missouri.
Twelve years ago, Rhodes and Rodriguez participated in the multi-man gimmick match, entering at number four and eight, respectively. Sheamus emerged victorious in the 30-man Royal Rumble match, eliminating Chris Jericho last.
In a recent sit-down interview with Chris Van Vliet of INSIGHT, the 38-year-old star recalled his impactful Royal Rumble 2012 appearance. Ricardo Rodriguez vividly described his surprise attack on Cody Rhodes, as he showcased his aggressive intent from the very beginning. The former ring announcer also highlighted the success Rhodes achieved down the line after he "took down" the current WWE Champion.
"The first person I attacked when I got in the ring was Cody Rhodes in the corner. So I started pummeling Cody. So I'm just saying, he's the champ right now and I took down Cody, Im' just saying" Rodriguez said. [From 41:55 to 42:05]
