A former WWE Superstar sent an emotional message about his release from the company. He said he wants to prove his supporters right.

Matt Cardona wrestled for WWE for several years. During this time, he underwent several transitions from an Edge head to one of the most popular stars on the roster. Despite his rising popularity, Cardona was never viewed as a main event star, and management always saw him as a mid-card talent.

Matt Cardona was finally released from WWE in 2020, ending his 15-year tenure with the promotion. Following his departure, Cardona has done pretty well for himself on the independent circuit and has wrestled for multiple promotions, particularly Game Changer Wrestling (GCW).

Cardona took to social media to share how GCW changed his life and career for the better. He also wrote that he would prove his supporters right at the January 19, 2025, show at the Hammerstein Ballroom.

"When I got fired from WWE in 2020, I didn’t know what was next for me. I didn’t even know who I was. And then I found @GCWrestling_in 2021. My career changed forever. My life changed forever. I’ve literally given my blood, sweat, and tears to GCW. January 19, 2025…we are going back to Hammerstein Ballroom. And I don’t give a s**t about proving the doubters wrong…I care about proving our supporters RIGHT! WE…ARE…GCW! #ThePeopleVsGCW."

Matt Cardona on not receiving any offers from WWE

Since leaving WWE, Matt Cardona has accomplished a lot. He has won numerous championships from promotions around the world. Despite his success, the Stamford-based promotion hasn't re-signed him.

During a recent interview with Denise Salcedo, Matt Cardona said he's gonna do his own thing, and when the phone call from WWE comes, he'll be ready to answer.

"I can't harp on what is not going on, I have to focus and put all my focus on just me and creating my own path and creating my own legacy and I feel like I've done that the past four years, but it's almost another year, it's almost 2025. So the pressure is on to top myself and it's a good pressure, I love the pressure, but listen, I am always ready, the phone rings right now, I'll have a conversation but I can't just be waiting by the phone. (...) I wanna do my own thing, be my own boss, have a lot of fun, make a lot of money. If the call comes, I am always ready." [1:07 - 1:52]

It will be interesting to see if Matt Cardona will ever make his return to the Stamford-based promotion.
