Vince McMahon oversaw WWE's creative direction between 1982 and 2022. In a recent interview, former referee, Marc Harris, revealed how McMahon once reacted to a botched finish in a match.
Damien Sandow defeated The Great Khali on the December 30, 2013, episode of RAW. The match had already run long when Sandow rolled up his opponent to secure a pinfall victory. Khali clearly lifted his shoulder during the pinfall attempt but Harris still counted to three.
On the Cheap Heat Productions Podcast, Harris admitted he feared the worst when he was summoned to see McMahon after the match. However, the former WWE Chairman surprisingly appreciated his rational explanation saying "Good answer," but advised him to avoid repeating it in the future.
"I was like, 'Well, we're already breaking down to minutes, the last seconds of the match, and to reset the whole finish to that match and to relay that to Khali and Sandow, it would have been at least a few more minutes over.' So I said, 'I'd rather save you money and the next match, their time, than reset the whole match over again.' He said, 'Good answer.' He's like, 'Don't let it happen again, but good answer,'" Harris stated. [13:04 – 13:32]

Harris worked for WWE between 2009 and 2014. He also refereed for TNA and Women of Wrestling (WOW).
Marc Harris addresses his WWE departure
In 2014, it was widely speculated that Marc Harris received his release following a social media disagreement with veteran referee, Jimmy Korderas.
Harris clarified that nobody in WWE ever spoke to him about his online behavior. He also shed light on how refereeing is not as easy as people might think:
"Nah, I got nothing," Harris said regarding feedback about his online posts. "Nothing. Not a word. Because to be able to do what we do and to be able to respond, I mean, you only have like seconds to respond to it, to what you do in the ring, and I dare anybody try to be as perfect as we are. I mean, there's a reason we all got selected as referees and signed to the pinnacle of wrestling." [14:06 – 14:35]
In the same interview, Harris claimed there is a secret "real reason" behind CM Punk's 2014 departure that has not been made public.
