Nearly two years after joining the main roster, Gunther captured the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE SummerSlam last Saturday. Nevertheless, a former WWE employee is not excited about The Ring General's title reign.
The new World Heavyweight Champion kicked off Monday Night RAW this week to announce his readiness for any challenge, claiming the red brand and the title are entering a new era. Meanwhile, Randy Orton surprisingly interrupted the promo to confront the Austrian star, challenging him to a title match at Bash in Berlin, which the latter accepted.
While addressing the segment on Behind The Turnbuckle: The Last Word, former WWE employee Tommy Carlucci disclosed that he believes The Ring General is "boring," as are his promos:
"Gunther is boring, dude. He, his promos are boring. I guess that's his character. He's low-key. He got the big entrance from [Ludwig Kaiser] and everything like that. He came in and he said there's gonna be a new legacy with the Heavyweight Championship and I'm it and blah, blah, blah. It's just like he did nothing to me to make me say, 'Wow! This dude is gonna be like a kicka**.' It was just really low-key until Randy Orton's music hit, that's when I perked up," he said. [2:28 - 2:58]
WWE veteran Jonathan Coachman isn't into Gunther as World Heavyweight Champion
Tommy Carlucci's co-host, former Interim RAW General Manager Jonathan Coachman, also revealed that he does not believe Gunther should have become the World Heavyweight Champion.
Meanwhile, the WWE veteran wondered why and how the 36-year-old is over with the fans. He also questioned the Stamford-based company continually pushing Imperium's leader and putting titles on him:
"I'm just, I'm not into it. I'm not into Gunther as a champion. And I don't know why, and maybe, Tommy, I missed it during the last five years when I wasn't watching the show, when he was Intercontinental Champion for 5,000 days [666 days], but somebody needs to explain to me how he's over, why he's over, why the executives continue to put titles on him, and now he's supposed to be the biggest star on the Monday night show. That's what the World Heavyweight Champion is," he said. [3:42 - 4:10]
While Coachman has predicted that Gunther will have a long World Heavyweight Championship reign, it would be interesting to see if The Ring General can successfully overcome his first challenger, The Viper, Randy Orton.
