Gunther fires shots at 2-time WWE Hall of Famer; takes cheeky dig at legendary move

Gunther fired some friendly shots at a two-time WWE Hall of Famer in a recent interview. The Ring General is known for having one of the best chops in wrestling today, while Ric Flair made it iconic.

In a recent interview with SHAK Wrestling for CBS Sports, the King of the Ring was asked about his Mt. Rushmore of choppers in pro wrestling history. He mentioned himself, Flair, and a couple of Japanese wrestling legends: Kenta Kobashi and Shinya Hashimoto.

The former Intercontinental Champion also took a shot at Flair's iconic chops, calling them ineffective. He did tip his cap to The Nature Boy for making the move popular with the "Woo" chants.

"Kenta Kobashi, then myself. Who else? I mean, Ric Flair was very known for his chops. Not very effective though. He really, he spammed them a lot. And I think, you know what? I'll put in [Shinya] Hashimoto. He didn't have the knife-edge chop to the chest but the one to the neck. I always enjoyed that," Gunther said. [1:58 - 2:29]

The 36-year-old superstar has chopped a lot of opponents in his career and has left a lot of bruises on them. He most recently scarred Finn Balor during their match on WWE RAW.

Gunther is looking to win the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam

After winning the King of the Ring Tournament, Gunther was granted a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam. He will try to get it from Damian Priest, who has withstood some challengers since winning the title at WrestleMania 40 from Drew McIntyre.

The build-up for their SummerSlam match started slowly before it got heated in the past two weeks. The Ring General defeated Priest's fellow Judgment Day member, Finn Balor, last Monday. He continued to attack before the World Heavyweight Champion came down to rescue his friend.

Priest rained down punches and kicks on Gunther and even threw him at the announcer's table and threw prime bottles at him. He continued to attack his rival as the show went off the air, with The Archer of Infamy pummeling the No. 1 contender on the back.

WWE SummerSlam is all set to take place this coming Saturday, August 3, 2024, at the Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio. Seven matches have been advertised on the card, and six of those matches will feature a championship on the line.
