Gunther's World Heavyweight Championship reign is moving forward in WWE. As the Austrian star approaches the 100-day mark of his biggest title run yet, a last-minute change forced him to switch things up before defending against a familiar face. New details from the WWE Universe have just been revealed from overseas.
RAW and SmackDown Superstars were at Utilita Arena in Cardiff, Wales, today to kick off a four-night UK tour. Gunther has been advertised to defend the World Heavyweight Championship on all four nights: a Street Fight against Kofi Kingston in Cardiff, Liverpool, and Newcastle, then a Street Fight against Jey Uso in Manchester. Kingston was last seen on Monday's RAW, where Uso retained the Intercontinental Championship over Xavier Woods. The post-match angle saw Bron Breakker take out The New Day and Uso.
The Ring General did not face The New Day's high-flyer at today's event in Cardiff as there was a last-minute change. Longtime rival Chad Gable replaced Kingston for undisclosed reasons, which forced Gunther to work as the babyface competitor.
The former rivals tore the house down and was well-received by fans. Gunther was said to be especially praised, with several loud reactions. The Bull from Vienna was booked as the face of a European mega-star against the heel patriot from America.
The former Shorty G was last seen on September 30 before tonight, when he defeated Kingston on RAW. Gunther worked the unexpected match with Gable after retaining the World Heavyweight Championship over Sami Zayn in the 17-minute main event of last Monday's RAW.
Kofi Kingston set for a big match on WWE RAW
World Wrestling Entertainment will continue its Crown Jewel build this week as RAW from St. Louis will air on the USA Network. Monday's episode was taped last week from Enterprise Center in Randy Orton's hometown due to the aforementioned UK tour. Spoilers have been available on Sportskeeda Wrestling.
WWE has confirmed Bron Breakker vs. Kofi Kingston for RAW. This will be the first-ever match between the two top red-brand superstars.
Breakker is currently on a rampage after dropping the Intercontinental Championship to Jey Uso on September 23. After dethroning Sami Zayn at SummerSlam, The Dog of WWE's first main roster singles reign ended in just 51 days.
