Gunther is the reigning WWE World Heavyweight Champion and arguably one of the finest heels in the promotion today. The Ring General has been a workhorse titleholder since he captured the gold. Recently, he made a blockbuster announcement for his fans.
The Austrian Anomaly defended his World Heavyweight Championship against Damian Priest and Finn Balor in a Triple Threat match at Saturday Night’s Main Event 2024. Despite contesting against two high-caliber ex-champions, he managed to retain his title by taking advantage of the hostility between the former Judgment Day teammates.
Gunther and Damian Priest have been feuding for several months now. It seems they are set to continue their feud on the live event circuit by locking horns in a high-stakes match.
The Ring General recently took to his X/Twitter handle to inform fans that he would face his arch-rival Priest in a steel cage bout for the title. The championship contest will take place at Madison Square Garden on December 26 as part of the 2024 WWE Live Holiday Tour.

Why has WWE booked Gunther vs. Damian Priest again?
Damian Priest and Gunther have been engaged in a heated rivalry for months now. The Ring General defeated The Archer of Infamy to win the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam 2024.
Later, the World Heavyweight Champion defeated Priest at Survivor Series: WarGames 2024 in a rematch. Most recently, at Saturday Night's Main Event, The Ring General clinched a big win over The Archer of Infamy and Finn Balor in a Triple Threat match.
Considering The Austrian Anomaly's wins over Priest, fans have been wondering why the Stamford-based promotion is dragging out their storyline and not finding a different challenger.
It appears that the Triple H-led creative team was forced to change its plans after Bronson Reed sustained an injury. Seth Rollins was in a rivalry with Reed, and they were supposed to lock horns on the WWE Live Holiday Tour. They were seemingly set to feud till Royal Rumble 2025. However, the company booked CM Punk against The Visionary after The Auszilla was sidelined from in-ring action.
Some earlier reports suggested that CM Punk was set to challenge Gunther after Survivor Series: WarGames 2024. However, nothing has come of it yet. It remains to be seen what plans Triple H has in store for The Ring General and who will be his next opponent after Priest.
