Gunther has held the World Heavyweight Championship since SummerSlam 2024. Meanwhile, WWE analyst Sam Roberts suggested The Ring General could lose the title at next year's Biggest Party of The Summer.

On his Notsam Wrestling podcast, Roberts discussed John Cena's upcoming Retirement Tour. The 41-year-old proposed that The Leader of the Cenation could lose the Men's Royal Rumble Match before winning the Elimination Chamber in his quest for his 17th world championship.

According to Roberts, Cena would then challenge Gunther at WrestleMania 41 but fail to capture the title. The 41-year-old analyst claimed The Franchise Player could then win the Money in the Bank briefcase.

Roberts added that the 16-time World Champion could challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Title at SummerSlam 2025 without cashing in his Money in the Bank contract. After losing to The American Nightmare in the opening match, Cena could later cash in on Gunther after The Ring General's successful title defense and dethrone the Austrian star.

A former WWE writer just went after JBL for his comments HERE

"For SummerSlam, I've got John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes. No Money in the Bank, no anything. It's just we're finally gonna get it. John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes. Cody Rhodes beats John Cena. And that might be your opener of the show. And they shake hands after it, and John Cena gives a salute after it, almost like maybe he's done,'' he said.

Roberts added:

''The main event of that show is Gunther vs. Whoever. Gunther wins that match. John Cena comes out at the end, cashes in his briefcase, and looks at Gunther, going, 'Sorry, bro, these are the breaks!' And we have John Cena vs. Gunther at SummerSlam; Money in the Bank cash in, and John Cena wins!" [52:17-53:00]

Top WWE star thinks John Cena might want to face Gunther on his Retirement Tour

In an interview with The Hot Tag on 103.5, CM Punk discussed potential opponents for John Cena during the latter's Retirement Tour. Punk disclosed that he would be open to facing the 16-time World Champion or tagging with him.

Meanwhile, The Best in The World pointed out that Cena might want to fight new rising WWE stars on his way out, including Gunther.

"Knowing John, I'm assuming it's going to be somebody new, someone he can hand the baton to. So, it might be Gunther, or it might be somebody that he has his eyes on and nobody else is really seeing, you know. You don't know, and that's what excites me about," he said.

John Cena and Ric Flair currently hold the record for most World Championship reigns recognized by WWE at 16. It will be interesting to see if The Leader of the Cenation breaks that record before his in-ring retirement.
