Gunther tackles doubting himself ahead of WWE RAW

Gunther has had some significant highs and lows in 2024. While it is the year he was coronated as the World Heavyweight Champion in World Wrestling Entertainment for the first time in his career, it is also the year he was humbled in the ring. Twice.

In his third year on the main roster, The Ring General was pinned for the first time by Sami Zayn, at WrestleMania, no less. He also lost a high-profile showdown with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel, which may have been the bigger defeat as it relegated him to second place in the big picture. The Austrian has been doubting himself ever since.

Be that as it may, his win over Damian Priest and Finn Bálor at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event has helped him regain his confidence. WWE shared post-match footage of World Heavyweight Champion Gunther on Instagram, in which he is seen thinking out loud:

"Why did I doubt myself all that time? I was the greatest, I am the greatest, and I forever will be the greatest," Gunther stated.

Interestingly, the word around wrestling town is that World Heavyweight Champion Gunther will step inside a Steel Cage soon, against CM Punk. While this is seemingly for the Holiday Tour later this month, perhaps it may be foreshadowing a program ahead of WWE RAW's move to Netflix in January.

Gunther should end WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg's career, Teddy Long says

During a recent episode of Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine, Teddy Long articulated Goldberg's retirement match in 2025.

Goldberg announced in November that he would retire from in-ring competition after wrestling one more match for World Wrestling Entertainment next year. According to Long, if the former Universal Champion wants to do the right thing and go out on his back, then facing the World Heavyweight Champion is the way to go:

"If you wanted to do the right thing, if you got a guy there that you wanted to really push and you wanted to really do something with, then that retirement match, I'd put that guy over, get up, shake his hand, congratulate him, and wish him good luck."
