Stevie Richards wrestled for WWE between 1998 and 2008. The 53-year-old recently spoke on his YouTube channel about Don Callis' exclusion from the locker room during the Attitude Era.
Callis performed as a manager for The Truth Commission, The Oddities, and The Acolytes in the late 1990s. The Canadian, known in WWE as The Jackyl, got changed in his car before shows instead of the locker room.
Although Richards did not cross paths with Callis, he said on The Stevie Richards Show that the current AEW personality liked to do things his own way:
"He was just a different dude. He didn't fit in. He didn't fit into the scope of what they think. Like I said before, everybody's unique and everybody's a weirdo and everybody's a freak in wrestling. Everybody is so flawed in their own way, but they want you to all be the same in some ways. Don, I don't think was and Don, the urban legend with that is he would have to dress in his own car, a rental or something like that. He couldn't even dress in the building." [15:23 – 15:49]
Richards also disclosed details on how a commentator reacted after Chris Benoit forced him to change outside the locker room.
Stevie Richards applauds Don Callis' wrestling return
In 2017, Don Callis made an unexpected comeback as a commentator for NJPW after 13 years away from the wrestling business. Since then, he has worked in various on-screen roles in AEW and TNA.
Stevie Richards is pleased to see Callis doing so well after a lengthy absence from the industry:
"I have to give Don credit. He seemed like he would never get back into the business in any prominent role, but he's carved out a niche for himself in two different companies, in IMPACT [TNA] and now in AEW." [16:17 – 16:28]
Discussing other WWE backstage incidents, Richards also reacted to a story about The Hardy Boyz getting kicked out of the locker room earlier in their careers.
