CM Punk returned to WWE in 2023 after almost a decade away from the company. Jade Cargill, one of Punk's former AEW co-workers, recently opened up about her connection with the polarizing star.
Many fans and wrestlers have strong views about Punk. Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins were legitimately annoyed he rejoined WWE, leading to a storyline between the three men. By contrast, WrestleVotes recently reported that WWE management is "extremely happy" with the former AEW star's attitude and commitment.
Cargill spoke to Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter and host Dr. Chris Featherstone ahead of WWE SummerSlam. The SmackDown star had nothing but positive things to say about Punk as a human being:
"I mean, he's [CM Punk] a straight-forth guy," Cargill said. "Like, I don't know. He's just infectious. His energy's infectious. He wants everybody to do great. He's a straight shooter. If he sees something he doesn't like, he's the type of person to come over and tell me, 'Jade, that was cr*p,' or whatever he'll say in his form of words." [From 03:57 – 04:14]
Cargill added that CM Punk's main mission at age 45 is to provide help to younger wrestlers in the industry:
"But, I mean, we just have that connection that's there. We've always had that connection that's just there. He's just a friend. We can talk about anything and everything. He's just so nice and open and just wants to do nothing but help the next generation." [From 04:14 – 04:26]

Jade Cargill reveals the advice CM Punk gave her
In January 2024, Jade Cargill made her WWE in-ring debut in the Women's Royal Rumble match. Since then, she has mostly appeared in tag team storylines alongside fellow SmackDown star Bianca Belair.
Cargill revealed that CM Punk told her to slow down and enjoy the moment when she is in the ring:
"Take my time," she said when asked what Punk told her. "People have to understand I've only been doing this for like three years and I'm being compared to people who have been doing this for nine, 10 years. One of the matches, I think Backlash, when I came back after the match, we talked about it and the most inexperienced person other than me was Bianca, and she had been in I think 10 years, nine, 10 years. They were like, 'Listen, you're three years in. Relax. Have fun.'" [From 04:33 – 05:00]
The match in question took place at Backlash France on May 4. Belair and Cargill defeated Asuka and Kairi Sane to begin their 42-day Women's Tag Team Championship reign.
