Legendary booker and manager Dutch Mantell has been involved in the wrestling business since 1972. In a recent podcast episode, the 73-year-old gave his take on why David Flair's in-ring career ended abruptly.

Flair, the son of two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, wrestled for WCW in 1999 and 2000. The 44-year-old later had short stints with TNA and WWE. He also worked for the Puerto Rican promotion International Wrestling Association, where Mantell served as a creative consultant.

On Story Time with Dutch Mantell, the wrestling veteran did not hold back when discussing Flair's lack of ability:

"He was the sh**s. He had no talent. I mean, he could put trunks on and boots and wear a robe out there. He could be David Flair, whatever. He was developing his character, I guess. He could do the 'Wooooo!' People would look and say, 'Yeah, he looks like [Ric] Flair,' but he wasn't ready to do any kind of an angle with because he would actually do him more damage than it would do him good." As a wrestler, Flair is best remembered for his time in WCW. He shared the ring with several high-profile names, including Eric Bischoff, Goldberg, and Rey Mysterio.

Dutch Mantell's opinion on where David Flair went wrong

While his sister Charlotte later became one of WWE's top stars, David Flair only competed in dark matches for the company in the early-to-mid 2000s.

Dutch Mantell thinks Flair possessed the physical presence to be involved in the business, but he failed to make fans believe he was a wrestler:

"He wasn't that small. He was about 200-something pounds, he was okay, but when they get in there, the fans could tell David Flair was mismatched against everybody. He looked like a beginner wrestler. He looked like he just came out of wrestling 101 and was trying to look like and talk like a wrestler. You can portray it, but can you do it?" [8:30 – 8:57]

The highlight of Flair's career came when he won the United States Heavyweight Championship and World Tag Team Championship with Crowbar in WCW.
