The WWE Universe was stunned when footage of Cody Rhodes getting attacked by Kevin Owens in the parking lot following Bad Blood surfaced on the internet. Though the promotion didn’t release the footage officially, Triple H acknowledged the fan-recorded video and stated that the matter was being dealt with internally.

Kevin Owens’ WWE contract is reportedly set to expire by the end of this year or early January. With no updates on his re-signing the deal, his betrayal of Cody Rhodes could mark his last feud in WWE if he decides to exit the Stamford-based company.

In a recent edition of Jim Cornette’s Drive-Thru, wrestling veteran Jim Cornette said KO might be leaving the Stamford-based company. The veteran added that WWE might know about Owens’ exit, and that is why they let him attack The American Nightmare.

"I can't believe they went ahead and turned Kevin Owens on Cody Rhodes. This probably means they are pretty sure he is on the way out. I would think, 'Let's turn him and feed him to Cody before we lose him,’" said Cornette [4:07 onwards]

Cody Rhodes addressed Kevin Owens’ attack at WWE Bad Blood

Cody Rhodes had been silent on his former friend’s betrayal following Bad Blood, but he spoke about it in a recent appearance on Manchester Evening News. The American Nightmare stated that every star in the industry wanted gold and that Owens might have the same target on his mind.

"I’d be foolish to try and tell you anything different because the entire video exists online and you can see every inch of it. I’ll try and keep my remarks short in terms of how I feel but I will tell you this: It’s a very passionate industry, everybody wants the north star of our business. (...) Pro wrestling and sports entertainment tends to like dive into that. Perhaps it does, or perhaps its dealt internally," said Rhodes.

WWE will present their first Friday Night SmackDown following Bad Blood in a few hours. With much anticipation among fans over the story, time will tell what happens when both Rhodes and Owens come face-to-face again.
