WWE SmackDown will always be known as the house that AJ Styles built. However, the heartbreaking news came from a backstage personality working in the Stamford-based promotion, revealing the injury.
Jackie Redmond has been an on-screen personality for a while in WWE and often covers superstars before and after their matches. Last night, AJ Styles made his long-awaited return to Friday Night SmackDown and faced Carmelo Hayes in a singles match. However, midway through the bout, Styles suffered an injury, forcing the referee to stop the action and declare Hayes as the winner.
Several rumors and speculations are running wild around The Phenomenal One's injury. Unfortunately, Jackie Redmond broke the news further and confirmed that Styles has a Lisfranic injury. The veteran will receive an MRI later to confirm the severity of the foot injury.
"Coming out of Smackdown last night, I can confirm that AJ Styles suffered a “mid foot ligament sprain” also known as a Lisfranc injury. AJ will have an MRI later this week to determine the severity of the injury," Redmond wrote.
Corey Graves deleted his Tweet! More details HERE.
The injury's general timetable is six to eight weeks in a minor case. However, it could take six months to a year depending on the severity of the injury.
What was AJ Styles doing on WWE in 2024?
Earlier this year, AJ Styles was in a heated feud with The Bloodline upon his return to Friday Night SmackDown last December. Later, he turned on LA Knight as he claimed The Megastar walked over him and took his opportunity against Roman Reigns.
The two stars feuded for months, leading to a match at WrestleMania XL, where Knight scored a victory over Styles. After the event in Philadelphia, The Phenomenal One defeated The Megastar, earning himself an Undisputed WWE Title shot at Backlash: France.
While Styles failed to defeat Rhodes in Lyon, France, he later faked a retirement segment and lured Cody Rhodes to grant him another title match. The rematch took place at Clash at the Castle in an 'I Quit' match for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Unfortunately, Styles failed to win an 'I Quit' match and was written off television for months. It'll be interesting to see if the rumors are true or if The Phenomenal One will be out of action for a while from in-ring competition.
