Hulk Hogan was among WCW's biggest names when Kevin Nash ended Bill Goldberg's undefeated streak at Starrcade 1998. In an exclusive interview, The Hulkster opened up about the polarizing booking decision.

Goldberg won 173 consecutive matches before losing the WCW World Heavyweight Championship to Nash. At the time, the former football player was one of the world's most popular wrestlers and many fans wanted his winning run to continue.

Hogan told Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter that WCW would probably have benefited from extending Goldberg's undefeated streak:

"I think Goldberg should have still been undefeated. That might have been one of the things that would have kept the revenue stream coming in, but there are decisions to be made, different people in control of the pie. Some of it was business, some of it was just trying to find a different direction." [3:33 – 3:54]

Hulk Hogan does not think Goldberg's loss killed WCW

In 2001, then-WWE Chairman Vince McMahon bought WCW and obtained the contracts of several wrestlers.

Many fans have debated whether WCW's controversial storylines contributed to the company being sold. However, Hulk Hogan thinks the higher-ups at WCW's parent company AOL Time Warner ultimately made the decision:

"You can't blame anybody but that corporate structure. They vehemently did not want wrestling. They just didn't want wrestling. It's the furniture in your house, you get rid of it. That's what it was. It was a piece of furniture out of their mansion and they didn't want that type of furniture, so it was gonna get cut out no matter how successful it was." [3:58 – 4:23]

Hogan worked for WCW between 1994 and 2000. He held the world title six times and was an original member of the legendary nWo faction alongside Kevin Nash and Scott Hall.
