WWE star John Cena dropped a bombshell tonight as he announced his retirement plans. The 16-time world champ appeared at Money in the Bank to make the heartbreaking announcement.
Cena made a surprise appearance last night at Money in the Bank. The Cenation Leader cut a promo stating that he would be retiring soon. He laid out the plans for his retirement tour, comprising appearances at the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and culminating at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas next year.
During the Money in the Bank post-show press conference, Cena also answered a question about how Vince McMahon and his legacy were intertwined. He politely refused to speak about the Mr. McMahon scandal, stating that his thoughts and opinions were already out there. Instead, he wanted to focus on the future with WWE and how the company was in good hands with TKO in control.
"Surely, an uncomfortable question. I really would much rather talk about what's ahead of us, and that's really important. I've been pretty honest with my opinion to answer that question. And if you didn't see it, I know you can dig it up somewhere. I think we're on the precipice of something pretty special. And as the business evolves, and continues to evolve, da*n, it's in pretty good hands with the TKO folks. So, I am happy to be where I'm at. Again, I think if you want that information, if you dig hard enough, you can find it. Thank you, though. I appreciate the courage." [From 18:00 - 18:40]
John Cena is a 16-time world champion
Over a span of more than two decades, John Cena has won a number of championships and main-evented several WrestleManias.
One of his most glorious achievements is possibly winning 16 world championships, which include the WWE championship 13 times and the World Heavyweight Championship thrice, during his WWE stint. He is currently tied with the legendary Ric Flair for the most number of world championships.
Even WWE announcer Wade Barrett felt that there was a possibility John Cena would go for the 17th world championship win. In recent times, Cena has found it hard to come out on top in his matches. His last singles victory came way back in 2018.
It will be interesting to see if The Franchise Player can recreate some of his old magic and win the elusive 17th world title before he calls it a day.
