CM Punk often divides opinion among fans and his fellow wrestlers. In a recent interview, WWE RAW star Drew McIntyre took several digs at Punk while opening up about his real-life view of his on-screen rival.
McIntyre and Punk have traded several insults since the latter returned to WWE in November 2023 after an absence of almost a decade. In January, Punk tore his triceps while wrestling McIntyre in his return match at the Royal Rumble.
Speaking to Denise Salcedo on Instinct Culture, McIntyre made it clear that his character's feelings about Punk are based on reality:
"I'm starting to realize that I've given him too much attention and I'm the only one that's kept him relevant, so I'm trying to ease up on that because it is fun to tear him apart on social media because he's got zero comebacks, so he knows I'll shred him, and he learned even on the microphone I'll shred him at his own game because in the ring, not that he ever had an athletic bone in his body in his prime, he had one match, I went in there [and injured him]. I genuinely can't stand him." [2:04 – 2:27]

The feud between the two men has continued in recent months despite CM Punk's injury. In April, The Best in the World watched from the commentary table as McIntyre beat Seth Rollins at WrestleMania XL to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
Moments later, a distracted McIntyre lost the title after Damian Priest successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract.
Drew McIntyre compares himself to CM Punk
Over the last few months, Drew McIntyre has gained traction on social media for his entertaining posts and shots at CM Punk. He has also blurred the lines between fiction and reality with some of his comments on television.
Although CM Punk is known for his speaking skills, McIntyre believes he is better than The Straight Edge Superstar on the microphone:
"It's not like I'm [British actor] Daniel Day-Lewis and I'm out there like, 'Wow, it really feels these guys don't like each other.' We don't. We can't stand each other, and I targeted him and I beat him up and I injured him because it was that easy because I'm a genuine athlete. The one thing he's good at is those Pipebombs, and I shredded him at that too." [2:27 – 2:40]
On June 15, McIntyre will challenge Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship at Clash at the Castle in his home country of Scotland.
