Legends and notable names returning to in-ring action sporadically after hanging up their boots have been the norm not only in WWE but also in pro wrestling for decades. Another name set to be added to the list is Booker T, who will face Zilla Fatu upon his return to the squared circle. The Hall of Famer shared his thoughts on the same during a recent interview.
The former world champion has largely been inactive as an in-ring performer for the last 13 years. He was last seen in action at WWE Royal Rumble 2023, where he was a surprise entrant in the Men's Royal Rumble Match. However, he is set to return to action after over 700 days, this time for his wrestling promotion, Reality of Wrestling, where he will face Zilla Fatu in a singles match.
Speaking about the match on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T noted that while he has been suffering from multiple health issues, he is daring to prove his doubters wrong.
"I couldn't think of a better way to bring in this new year, whooping somebody's as*, you know what I mean? Everybody wanted to know if it was true. Everybody wanted to know if it was real. But dammit, it's real. You know what, am I the man I used to be? No. Am I great as I once was? No. But I can still be great once. Of course, the right knee is bummed out. Of course, the cartilage is bone on bone. Of course...all of that."
A former WWE writer just went after JBL for his comments HERE
"But you know what? I'm going to tape it up, cause you know why...Because how are you going to tell a man...he can't go out there and do it like he once did once before? How are you going to do it? You can't do it. That's what I'm talking about. So me, myself, get ready. January 11, Walker, Texas, Lawyer Arena, bam, stepping right back inside the squared circle. Look at the flame...It's still burning deep inside...So I'm going to tell this youngster, on January 11...shucky ducky, quack quack baby. I'm back." [H/T: WrestlingInc]
Booker T currently plays a different role in WWE
Booker T has not been an active in-ring star since 2012. However, he is still very involved in the pro wrestling business, as he is a color commentator for WWE in addition to being the owner/founder of Reality of Wrestling.
The 59-year-old was a prominent star in the 90s and 2000s. He won multiple world titles across different promotions and has been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame twice.
Booker T is currently a part of the NXT commentary team. His last singles match came in 2019 when he defeated Rex Andrews at ROW The Last Stand. The Hall of Famer will lock horns with Zilla Fatu upon his return.
