A longtime wrestling veteran was shocked by Triple H's recent WWE decision and questioned why he had to do it. Jim Cornette was surprised by #DIY's heel turn two weeks ago on SmackDown.
On the December 6 episode of SmackDown, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa defeated the Motor City Machine Guns to become two-time WWE Tag Team Champions. Gargano shockingly hit a low blow on Chris Sabin before #DIY hit the Meeting in the Middle for the win.
Speaking on the latest episode of The Jim Cornette Experience, the former WWE manager was not expecting a heel turn from Gargano and Ciampa. His criticism was that the company had already turned Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods by betraying Big E and kicking him out of The New Day earlier in the week.
"I didn't see this one coming, but didn't they just do that with The New Day last week? I mean, not the same way, but the same thing where they were teasing a longtime split and it turned out they both went heel. So this was almost AEW like. What is the proper waiting period after a man turns on his opponent before you're allowed to do that again? It was the same week, almost the same thing in concept," Cornette said. [2:58 - 3:32]
The New Day and #DIY were two of the most beloved tag teams in WWE, and both turned heel in the same week. Both decisions made by Triple H were not predicted by many, so it was a refreshing idea that caught fans by surprise.
Triple H thinks more WWE stars will be in movies
Three of the biggest Hollywood stars today are The Rock, John Cena, and Dave Bautista, all former WWE Superstars. Drew McIntyre was part of Batista's latest film, while Seth Rollins is set to appear in Marvel's Captain America: Brave New World.
Speaking on The Roommates Show with New York Knicks duo Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, Triple H believes more WWE stars will be in movies in the future.
"Wrestling is accepted now. If somebody goes and does a movie or TV film, it's so accepted to where it's not, 'What's this wrestler doing in this movie?' Now, they can sort of fit in and people are more accepted of it. I think over the years, you'll see some of that. Guys like Roman Reigns, and some of our women too. Rhea Ripley or people like that," Triple H said. (H/T Fightful)
Roman Reigns has a role in the heist film The Pickup, which stars Eddie Murphy, Pete Davidson, Keke Palmer, and Eva Longoria.
