A wrestling veteran recently warned WWE, led Creatively by Chief Content Officer Triple H, about the negative impact of having a top title on one of the company's huge superstars. He claimed other wrestlers might not want to work with him.
The wrestler in question is Gunther. The Ring General captured the World Heavyweight Championship last Saturday at SummerSlam after defeating Damian Priest. On his first RAW as a champion, the Austrian star was confronted by Randy Orton. The Viper challenged him to a title match at Bash in Berlin, pointing out the controversial finish to their square-off in the King of the Ring final. As Imperium's leader accepted, the two will go one-on-one in the German capital.
On Behind The Turnbuckle: The Last Word, wrestling veteran Jonathan Coachman disclosed that he is not a Gunther fan. He warned Triple H and his team that RAW would receive some of its lowest ratings in a long time if the 36-year-old held the title until WrestleMania. The former Interim RAW General Manager also claimed some superstars might not want to work with The Ring General:
"If he is champion until WrestleMania, they will have some of the lowest, unless they don't feature him a lot, some of the lowest-rated RAWs they've had in a really long time. People are not gonna enjoy him being matched up with the bigger stars on RAW. I just don't think they're gonna enjoy it. And I don't think the boys would wanna work with him that much as World Heavyweight Champ," he said. [6:37 - 6:56]
An ex-WWE employee thinks Gunther is "boring"
Jonathan Coachman's co-host, former WWE employee Tommy Carlucci, is also not a Gunther fan. While addressing The Ring General's promo last night on WWE RAW, he stated that he thinks the new World Heavyweight Champion is "boring."
Carlucci, who spent over 30 years in WWE, pointed out that he did not get excited until Randy Orton interrupted the Austrian star:
"Gunther is boring, dude. He, his promos are boring. I guess that's his character. He's low-key. He got the big entrance from [Ludwig Kaiser] and everything like that. He came in and he said there's gonna be a new legacy with the Heavyweight Championship and I'm it and blah, blah, blah. It's just like he did nothing to me to make me say, 'Wow! This dude is gonna be like a kicka**.' It was just really low-key until Randy Orton's music hit, that's when I perked up," he said.
Gunther had a historic Intercontinental Championship reign that lasted 666 days. It would be interesting to see how long he will hold the World Heavyweight Championship.
