WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg announced that he would have his retirement match in 2025, which has garnered much attention over the past few months. The former Universal Champion made an appearance at WWE Bad Blood 2024 and was confronted by Gunther, who is anticipated to be Goldberg's opponent. Recently, former MLW World Heavyweight Champion Tom Lawlor shared his take on the legend's upcoming retirement match.
However, many wrestling fans anticipate former WWE Superstar Matt Riddle as the legend's final opponent. However, addressing the dream match in a recent interview, the former United States Champion stated that the Hall of Famer wouldn't want that match to happen.
Backing up the former WWE Superstar, NJPW and MLW star Tom Lawlor stated that the 57-year-old doesn't have the best track record in these cases. In a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Live, the former UFC fighter addressed the situation and suggested the veteran 'tread lightly,' considering every situation when he backed up a certain superstar or a fighter.
"I mean, Matt Riddle's right; if I were Goldberg, I would tread lightly because he doesn't have the best track record. If I remember, every time he's backing up fighters back in Pride, his favorites would routinely lose when he was doing commentary... But Goldberg was back there, slamming his head into the lockers, hyping him up as he's on his way out there to get slaughtered," stated Tom Lawlor. [2:25 onwards]

Goldberg can face Gunther in his last match
While there are many contenders that the WWE Hall of Famer could face in his last match, World Heavyweight Champion Gunther seems to be the frontrunner to retire the legend.
Both men had a serious confrontation at Bad Blood 2024, and the WWE Universe has been waiting to witness a match between them since then. Not only will a match against the Hall of Famer help Gunther elevate his career, but it would also make the perfect sense for generations to come.
We will have to wait and see what the legend has planned for his retirement next year.
