Is another WWE Title held hostage angle à la CM Punk in 2011 incoming? World Champion speaks

The WWE Universe will never forget CM Punk's iconic moment at Money in the Bank 2011. After defeating WWE Champion John Cena to win the belt, the Chicago native kissed the company goodbye and fled through his hometown crowd. Could The Cenation Leader do the same 14 years later?

TNA World Champion Nic Nemeth and WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray discussed the possibility of a John Cena heel turn in 2025. Nemeth feels that it is a dangerous move in terms of business, as Cena is a beloved veteran, and there could be backlash owing to a similar angle this past year with The Rock. Be that as it may, the 44-year-old noted that with the company currently enjoying a historic level of success, it could afford to take such a risk.

Speaking on the Busted Open podcast, Nic Nemeth feels that John Cena should end Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes' reign, which commenced at WrestleMania last year, and hold the title hostage until someone steps up:

"Wouldn't it be cool to see some danger? To try this thing [John Cena's heel turn]? Because if it doesn't work, we have all these other over guys. No one is Cena, but we have all these other pieces, we have the sell-outs, and we have the momentum. Can we try something that scares us a little bit? But could drastically double the numbers down the line?"

A top AEW star just called one of his colleagues 'spoiled' and 'narcissistic' HERE.

Nemeth further noted that it does not have to happen right out of the gate, but WWE can sow the seeds for an eventual heel turn for Cena:

"You don't have to start with it next week. You drop subtle hints to where six months in, you know it's coming and it happens. Then maybe, this year-long thing—he finally turns, he beats up Cody, he wins the championship, and he can't leave now! The year's up. You know what? Sc**w you guys! I got all your money. I'm doing one more tour. [...] I'm champ till somebody f**king beats me," Nic Nemeth stated, proposing a John Cena WWE Title title reign in 2025. [From 32:52 onwards]

WWE Superstars aplenty hope to wrestle John Cena this year, including CM Punk

In the past year, CM Punk has repeatedly brought up arguably his career-best on-screen rival John Cena's name as a possible opponent in 2025. CM Punk and John Cena have wrestled countless times during the former's first WWE run. Their rivalry is cited as one of the best in the 21st century. Punk hopes that their story gets an epilogue.

As Cena prepares for his WWE RAW return next week, CM Punk will lace up his boots to take on bitter rival Seth Rollins in the show's main event.
