What was the backstage reaction to Rey Fenix's tweets following Pentagon Jr's AEW exit?
Pentagon Jr. was free to go from AEW once his contract expired. However, the same didn't happen to his Lucha Bros tag team partner Rey Fenix.
As you may know, WWE reportedly intended to bring The Lucha Bros together and debut them as a tag team, but the circumstances have led to a change in plans. Tony Khan and AEW received a lot of backlash for the handling of the Rey Fenix situation as his contract was extended due to his injury time - with speculation being that it was done intentionally once Khan got wind about his rumored WWE signing.
According to TC and JoeyVotes on WrestleVotes Radio on Backstage Pass, many within WWE were surprised at Rey Fenix going public with his issues with AEW. It isn't going to affect his rumored signing and he is still expected to debut at some point, but the way it has played out has led to some backstage believing that it might convolute his signing.
Time will tell how things play out, but it hasn't been a good look for AEW. Regardless, Rey Fenix said he would explain the details of the situation once he leaves the company. When responding to Dr. Chris Featherstone's report about the "injustice" regarding the situation, Fenix said it was the most accurate report yet.
