A wrestling veteran has sent a heartfelt message to WWE ahead of New Year's Day. The veteran, Mark Henry, parted ways with Tony Khan's All Elite Wrestling earlier this year.
Mark Henry worked with All Elite Wrestling for about three years during 2021-24. He decided against renewing his contract with the promotion and left on May 28, 2024.
Henry put up a tweet earlier today, revealing that he received a Happy New Year greeting card from the Stamford-based promotion, which is currently doing incredibly well under the Triple H regime. He wrote the following in his tweet:
"It’s good to be respected! Thank You WWE 🙏🏿."
WWE legend Mark Henry spoke about his AEW run
Shortly after his AEW exit, Mark Henry sat down with the Huge Pop podcast for an interview. He didn't mince his words while opening up about his time in Khan's promotion.
"Tightening the screws requires you to be able to break your tool kit out. So, there was a point where I realized that I wasn't there to tighten the screws. I was there for name recognition and visibility, and that's a horrible place to feel if you're a creative," Henry recalled. "I don't wanna come across - I'm not whining and I'm not complaining. I'm stating the facts ... But right now, everybody gonna be like, 'Nah, Mark Henry just mad and bitter.' I'm not mad and bitter." [H/T - WrestlingInc.]
Henry further said that he wanted to go to AEW to help the wrestlers and the company flourish. He also revealed that he took a pay cut to join the company. As per Henry, "There are some bad apples" in All Elite Wrestling that have to be disciplined, but no one was getting suspended/disciplined when he was a part of the company. Judging by Henry's words, it seems unlikely he could ever return to AEW.
