Jerry "The King" Lawler has provided an update on his status with WWE. The veteran has had a remarkable career as a wrestler and as a commentator.
In an interview with Going Ringside, Lawler discussed his status with the promotion and whether he is still under contract. He noted that he had suffered two strokes recently, and the promotion realized that wasn't a good thing to deal with while doing commentary.
He shared that his commentary contract with the company was not extended, but he is still signed by WWE.
“The commentating contract [ended]. I had two strokes about seven months ago, and so they started…that’s not good for commentary. But I’m still under contract with them,” Lawler stated. [H/T: Ringside News]

Bill Apter reveals why WWE Hall of Famer Jerry "The King" Lawler was not allowed on magazine cover
Jerry Lawler is a household name now, but that was not always the case. Bill Apter recently shared a story about Lawler trying to get on the cover of a magazine in 1981.
Speaking on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine podcast, Apter recalled Jerry Lawler wanting his match against Terry Funk to be featured on the covers of magazines. However, Apter revealed that the publisher didn't put Lawler on the cover because he wasn't as popular at the time.
"With the magazines, Jerry was so wanting to get publicity, he used to send me packages of pictures every week from his photographers there," Apter stated. "He even did, this was for the magazine, a lot of people don't know this, remember that Empty Arena match that he had with Terry Funk? Empty Arena. That was done so he could get on the cover of the magazine, and the publisher of the magazine refused to put it on the cover because nobody knew, in his opinion, who Jerry Lawler was back then." AEW commentator Jim Ross recently hinted that there could be a reunion with Jerry Lawler someday. It will be interesting to see if the 74-year-old makes any more appearances for WWE while he is under contract.
