Legendary wrestling manager Jim Cornette has commented on John Cena potentially facing Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41. The veteran thinks it could happen if The Rock doesn't get involved.
After The Grandest Stage of Them All last year, it seemed like The Final Boss vs. The American Nightmare was a huge possibility for this year. However, it seems unlikely that the bout will happen, as the two stars seem to have sorted out their differences outside the ring. It's been rumored that John Cena will face the Undisputed WWE Champion in April to break the most world championship record.
Speaking on the latest edition of the Jim Cornette Drive-Thru, the WWE veteran stated that if The Rock is not going to work with Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41, he would love to see the latter wrestle John Cena.
"I love that if The Rock is not going to be involved... It's a story for Cena: can I be a 17-time champion, even though the numbers are fudged on everybody's part? But that’s a story for Cena. He’s going to be a raving babyface, but at the same time, Cody would love to take on that challenge, I believe, of having a match with John Cena at WrestleMania, where he’s even the subtle heel like Dory Jr. used to be with Jack Brisco in Florida," said Cornette. Jim Cornette says John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes could happen if The Rock faces Roman Reigns
The Great One vs. The OTC was supposed to happen at WrestleMania XL, and there's still a chance it could happen this year, even though nothing has been confirmed yet. The two stars were involved in a segment on RAW this week.
Jim Cornette added that if The Rock wrestles Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 41, it will free up Cody Rhodes to face John Cena.
"They’d have a tremendous match, and you know it would be big box office if The Rock is not over here doing something else besides with Roman. If they get Rock and Roman, they could do Cody and Cena... They could put goddamn Hillbilly Jim in the opening match and sell out." [6:30-6:52]
The Cenation Leader did say on RAW that he wants to enter the Royal Rumble and get another world title match. It'll be interesting to see how things pan out.
