A backstage personality has predicted that John Cena could win his historic 17th WWE World Championship at SummerSlam 2025. Sam Roberts believes The Cenation Leader could defeat Gunther at next year's Biggest Party of the Summer.

John Cena made his unexpected WWE return last week at Money in the Bank 2024. As expected, it elicited a thunderous response from the fans in Toronto. However, the mood in the arena soon turned somber after Cena revealed his plans to bid goodbye to pro wrestling by embarking on a retirement tour in 2025.

Since the heartbreaking announcement, there has been tons of speculation about what the company has in store for him.

On his Notsam Wrestling podcast, Sam Roberts said he could see John Cena facing Gunther at SummerSlam 2025. The RAW Talk host explained the 36-year-old might win the World Heavyweight Title at SummerSlam 2024 and carry it until next year's show, where Cena could defeat him.

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

"Maybe Gunther is the guy. Maybe Gunther holds the title for a year. Maybe Gunther wins the title at SummerSlam and then holds it for the year until John Cena beats him. And maybe in October Gunther wins it back or somebody else wins it," Sam Roberts said. (20:38 - 20:53)

Vince Russo on John Cena's decision to retire

On this week's edition of Sportskeeda's Legion of RAW, Vince Russo shared an interesting theory about why the 16-time WWE World Champion might have decided to hang up his boots.

Russo believes that Cena was a Vince McMahon guy and that he might not have a great equation with the new management under Triple H.

"I think Cena and Taker [The Undertaker], from what I gather, were probably the two talents closest to Vince. That's what I could take away (...) So I think Cena could be bowing out because Cena was a Vince McMahon guy. Cena might not like working under the great regime of Triple H and Shawn Michaels. Cena's made it clear, bro. We even heard stories, he was at Vince's birthday dinner, remember all that stuff? So Cena may be a guy that's not big into the Triple H regime."

No matter what WWE has in store, it's safe to assume Cena's last few matches will be an emotional affair for fans who have grown up watching him.
