John Cena to make a "dangerous" move upon WWE return? World Champion articulates 

John Cena is booked for the WWE RAW Netflix premiere on January 6, 2025. The show will mark the commencement of his Farewell Tour, which ends in December.

WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray and TNA World Champion Nic Nemeth are excited about Cena's final run in World Wrestling Entertainment, much like the large fanbase worldwide. They touched upon arguably the biggest missed opportunity in the wrestling world: a John Cena heel turn.

On the latest episode of the Busted Open podcast, Bully Ray proposed that Cena go after Cody Rhodes as the primary antagonist at some point this year. Nic Nemeth explained why it could backfire with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's recent role in The American Nightmare's story as The Final Boss:

"I think it's dangerous," Nic Nemeth said right off the gate. "I'm [considering] all aspects. Not just the wrestling business aspect. Now, if he turns heel on Cody, beats him up and bloodies him...well, didn't The Rock just do that last year? So you're copying The Rock already. You're a movie star. Okay. You got to be careful there. Also, really important, money wise, maybe it doesn't work. And maybe, you get the cheers and the responses at first, and then all of a sudden it's—nah, we're not really feeling this," he noted. [From 26:28 to 27:29]

As of this writing, there is no word yet on what WWE has in store for the 47-year-old's Farewell Tour. According to Cena, his in-ring career will end in December, after which he will never lace up a pair of boots again.

Did WWE plant the seeds for a John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes program?

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes revealed in early 2023 that he had asked John Cena for a match when the latter returns to the ring in the future. This conversation happened when they were on-air on an episode of WWE RAW a month before WrestleMania 39.

The 16-time World Champion raised The American Nightmare's arm, which supposedly symbolized the passing of the torch. However, Bully Ray noted in the aforementioned Busted Open episode that it was not, but it could be the beginning of what could be a passing of the torch moment if John Cena faces Cody Rhodes in 2025.

Meanwhile, WWE personality Sam Roberts recently noted that Cena needs to revisit his rivalry with Kevin Owens. Ironically, The Prizefighter will challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble on February 1, 2025.
