Kevin Owens compared himself to WWE icons ahead of tonight's episode of SmackDown. The upcoming edition of the blue brand was taped last week at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut.

Cody Rhodes defeated Kevin Owens to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship at Saturday Night's Main Event. However, Owens brutally attacked The American Nightmare and hit him with a Package Piledriver after the bout. The Prizefighter also stole the Winged Eagle title from Rhodes and took to social media today to compare himself to wrestling icons Andre the Giant and Macho Man Randy Savage.

Owens shared an image of himself along with the two legends holding the Winged Eagle title ahead of tonight's episode of SmackDown.

The 40-year-old invaded WWE Headquarters earlier this week as the company has been promoting RAW's debut on Netflix next month. Owens taped an image of himself over a poster of Rhodes before he was escorted out of the building.

Former WWE writer criticizes the company for not showing Kevin Owens' attack on TV

Wrestling legend Vince Russo recently took the Stamford-based promotion to task for not showing Kevin Owens' attack on Cody Rhodes during Saturday Night's Main Event.

Owens went after Rhodes following the bout and sent the champion out of the arena in an ambulance. The veteran also got into a shoving match with Triple H following his actions, but that was not shown on television either.

Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW, Vince Russo said that Saturday Night's Main Event was a disappointment and the company should have had Owens' attack taking place during the show.

"So bro, we have Saturday Night's Main Event, which was a total total disappointment. No way they got new viewers from that show. They go off the air without showing the best part, which was Kevin Owens turning on Cody Rhodes. That wasn't even on the main show. He attacked him, got heat on him after the match. The show ended with Cody Rhodes up with a period at the end of the sentence and all these shenanigans took place on social media," he said. [From 11:13 onwards]

The rivalry between Owens and Rhodes appears to be far from over. It will be fascinating to see what WWE has planned for the storyline following Kevin Owens' heinous attack this past Saturday night at SNME.
