The return of WWE Saturday Night's Main Event ended in controversy, which continued after the show, all at the hands of Kevin Owens. The Canadian star has a noted history with Triple H, and now there is new tension brewing between the two. Owens is now fueling rumors about what's next.
The Prizefighter came up short against Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes in the main event of last night's SNME. Triple H had allowed The American Nightmare to wear, for one night only, the Winged Eagle version of the title, but Owens stole the strap from Cody after a sneak attack following the show. The Chief Content Officer angrily confronted KO after the match, and while he was reprimanded, Hunter did not take the title belt back.
KO has been more active on social media today, gloating over what happened in New York on Saturday. He fueled speculation within the WWE Universe by sharing a photo of him and Triple H from happier times. Owens did not caption the picture, which was taken during WrestleMania XL rehearsals in April.
The aforementioned photo may represent something more to the former Universal Champion, as Night Two of WrestleMania XL brought another loss to his record. Owens competed in a Triple Threat match with Randy Orton and then-United States Champion Logan Paul, in which the latter pinned KO to retain his belt.
Kevin Owens issues one-word statement on the WWE Championship
Kevin Owens has indicated he has no plans to hand over the Winged Eagle version of the WWE Championship. Owens has been in possession of the belt since the post-match SNME attack on Cody Rhodes, who was allowed to wear the title out for one night only.
The Prizefighter is the subject of heavy rumors and speculation on the new WWE Championship storyline. KO took to X/Twitter today with a one-word statement on the status of the Winged Eagle.
"Mine," Kevin Owens wrote with the photo below.
Officials have not confirmed the next Owens vs. Rhodes singles bout, which is believed to be a stipulation match of sorts. Cody retained over KO at Bash In Berlin this past August and again at SNME this past Saturday.
