Former WWE star and ECW original Tommy Dreamer recently spoke about Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan vacating the Women's Tag Team Championship due to the latter's injury.
This week, WWE announced that Rodriguez would relinquish the women's tag title on behalf of her team since she could not defend it in Liv Morgan's absence. This came as a stunning blow to the tandem who had just won the championship on the April 10, 2023, episode of RAW.
On this week's episode of the Busted Open podcast, Dreamer claimed that the title could be unlucky for the holders. He recalled how a year ago, Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out of the company while they were champions, and since then, WWE has been unsuccessfully trying to bring back the title into prominence.
"Kinda feeling like those titles might be jinxed. That's just my opinion. Honestly, like every time the ball gets rolling, something happens. If you think about it, this week, a year ago was when Naomi and Sasha Banks at that time walked away from WWE as tag team champions, and ever since then, that momentum to get them over [sic]. Hence, why I feel like a little bit of a jinx with those titles. They have enough women on the roster to get it over, and I know they will. But there are these certain roadblocks that seem to come about." [1:57 - 2:36]
Raquel Rodriguez will have to find a new partner in the absence of Liv Morgan
WWE announced this week on SmackDown that the new Women's Tag Team Champions would be decided in a fatal four-way match on the May 29, 2023, episode of RAW.
The four-way bout will feature Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler, Bayley & IYO SKY, Sonya Deville & Chelsea Green, and Raquel Rodriguez & a mystery partner as a replacement for Liv Morgan.
All four tandems could be formidable competitors, and the road to the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship will not be easy.
