WWE star and 16-time world champion John Cena showed up on Monday Night RAW this week. It was a historic night for WWE as the flagship show debuted on streaming giant Netflix.
The Cenation Leader walked out to deafening cheers from the fans at the Intuit Dome. In an electrifying promo, Cena acknowledged that he hasn’t won a singles match in over 2,000 days. However, he announced that he would be entering the Royal Rumble and working his way toward the elusive 17th world title, claiming it would take a miracle to break the record. Legendary journalist Bill Apter was not shocked at the announcement.
Hall of Fame journalist and Sportskeeda Senior Editor Bill Apter wasn’t surprised by Cena wanting to pursue another title run. Apter noted that the fans were excited about John Cena chasing the record 17th championship. The veteran journalist hinted that Mr. Hustle Loyalty Respect could face either Cody Rhodes or Gunther in marquee matchups if he wins the Royal Rumble this year.
"Not a surprise to me. I anticipated this when I heard about his final tour. The fan reaction to him going for a title again was so very positive. Hey, never say never. It might be Cody or Gunther who will be able to see him and perhaps get that record 17th championship in the books!"
With this announcement, John Cena becomes the first star to announce himself for the Royal Rumble 2025.
It will be interesting to see if WWE's Franchise Player can win the Royal Rumble for the third time in his career and headline one more WrestleMania.
