The iconic WWE couple, "Macho Man" Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth, were part of a major rivalry back in the day brought to a screeching halt due to Elizabeth's family.
Had things gone as planned, it would have allegedly given WWE Hall of Famer Jake "The Snake" Roberts a huge payday on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
Speaking to Steve Fall of WrestlingNews.co, Jake Roberts discussed his feud with the "Macho Man" from 1992. According to the Hall of Famer, Elizabeth's family was furious at him for the shenanigans he pulled on-screen, and Savage was getting a ton of heat at home:
"Well, if I had done that, I’d still be at the company. When they pull a rug on that one too, it just really you know, f*cking frustrated me. You know. Really frustrated me. Yeah… yeah… yeah… Randy was getting... Randy was getting too much heat at home from his in-laws."
He continued, visibly upset recalling the rivalry:
"They were going f*cking psychotic over what I did to Elizabeth. So they had to kibosh that thing and get it off the air. Great huh?" Jake Roberts said. [From 03:01 to 03:52]
The Hall of Famer added that one of his biggest mistakes was not politicking backstage. Ultimately, their storyline culminated with Savage picking up a victory over Roberts at Saturday Night's Main Event XXX.
Jake Roberts was a mentor to WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker
The Undertaker spoke fondly of Jake Roberts while speaking to Stone Cold Steve Austin on the Broken Skull Sessions.
The legendary WWE Superstar detailed that in his early days, Roberts was the man he went to for advice:
"Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts, man... brilliant, brilliant mind. Unbelievable insight on how to put that character together," 'Taker said. "He didn’t even tell me this, but I heard him tell someone else - ‘once the music starts you are that person'. I probably took it a step further because I stayed that person for the first five or six years."
The Phenom added:
"He had so many good innovative ways to put things together and to look at different aspects of the business that no one got."
The Undertaker wound up being the one Jake Roberts faced in 1992 at WrestleMania VIII, instead of Randy Savage. This also was Roberts' final match for the Stamford-based promotion until he made a return four years later.
The Hall of Famer recalled an incident when 'Taker warned the entire WWE locker room to stop taunting him when the latter chose sobriety. Read more here.
