Triple H recently made a comment regarding The Attitude Era while comparing it to the current era of WWE. Meanwhile, one figure from that time has hit back at The Game in a major way, stating that those in the wrestling bubble find it hard to contextualize the importance of ratings.
In the latest episode of Writing with Russo, Vince Russo, who was the lead writer in WWE during a portion of The Attitude Era, slammed Triple H's recent comment. The King of Kings recently claimed on The Roommates Show that the current era of WWE is bigger than the famed and celebrated Attitude Era (1997-2001).
Vince Russo took issue with this comment, slamming the idea that "ratings don't matter." He urged the proponents of the idea to sit with the top executives of major broadcast networks and tell them that ratings don't matter while the networks shell out hundreds of millions of dollars a year.
"People who are so entrenched in the wrestling bubble have no idea how casual fans look at this stuff. You can say whatever you want, bro, 1.3 million people watch RAW. Monday Night football, both teams were out of it. 1.3 million people, and Triple H is going to say that this is bigger than The Attitude Era? If The Attitude Era was drawing 1.3 million people, I would have been fired from my job," he said. [13:54-14:25]
Corey Graves deleted his Tweet! More details HERE.
Dr. Chris Featherstone had a response to this comment, stating that beyond the millions that The Attitude Era drew on television in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the modern WWE has much bigger deals in place internationally.

Triple H revealed how he felt after meeting Roman Reigns for the first time
The King of Kings made NXT his baby, took control of the intellectual property, turned it from a game show to a developmental brand, and, along with others, created the world-class recruiting system we see today. Naturally, he has crossed paths with many current main eventers when they were still rookies.
On The Roommates Show, Triple H revealed that he knew what he saw when he first met Roman Reigns, telling Dusty Rhodes how he envisioned the OTC's future in 10 years.
"I walked out of the interview and, at the time, Dusty Rhodes was working developmental with me, and I walked up and said, 'If that kid's not the biggest star we ever have in 10 years, I don’t know what we’re doing. Like, holy s**t! He's got everything.' When he walked in the room, you couldn’t help but look and go, 'Who's that?' He has an innate X-factor charisma,'' Triple H said. [From 20:35 to 21:19]
It certainly took some time for Roman Reigns to get there, but we now know that it would have happened much sooner if he hadn't been forcibly presented as a superhero to fans for five to six years.
Even in his early NXT days, Jim Ross made a comment during one of Reigns' matches, saying that the former Shield member had "IT!" It's interesting how legends like Triple H and Jim Ross could recognize Roman's potential very early on.
