A world title win in WWE is hard to come by, and not every superstar wins the biggest prize in the Stamford-based promotion. Recently, Kevin Owens opened up about his Universal Championship run and explained his real regret as the champion.
In 2016, Kevin Owens did the impossible, as he defeated Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Big Cass in a Fatal Four-Way Match on WWE RAW to become the Universal Champion. The Prizefighter had a lengthy reign on the red brand before he dropped the title to Goldberg at Fastlane 2017.
In a video titled WWE Retrospective on the company's YouTube channel, the former Universal Champion detailed his real regret as he looked back at his iconic title reign. The Prizefighter stated he didn't enjoy it as much as he should have. KO admitted that he was obsessed over every small detail in his time as the champion.
"As far as what I wish I could change or appreciate more is basically every single night after that because, from that point on, all I could think about was how can I make the [sic] title reign as good as possible. And then I would just obsess over every little thing,'' he said.
The SmackDown star added:
''And I just got so into my own head. I really didn't appreciate it as much as I should've, and that's a real regret. I don't know if I'll ever get that opportunity ever [sic] again, but I'll always have that night and that moment.'' [From 16:42 to 17:25]
Kevin Owens has another shot at a world championship at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event
Earlier this year, Cody Rhodes granted Kevin Owens a shot at the Undisputed WWE Title. However, The Prizefighter initially declined the offer, as he believed he didn't earn it. Regardless of his humbleness, he faced The American Nightmare at Bash in Berlin and lost.
Later, he turned on Cody Rhodes when the champion joined forces with Roman Reigns at Bad Blood. In the following weeks, Kevin Owens crossed a few lines as he nailed a Piledriver on Randy Orton, consigning The Viper to the bench. The move infuriated Cody Rhodes, and a rematch was announced between the two.
KO will challenge The American Nightmare for the latter's title at Saturday Night's Main Event in Long Island.
It will be interesting to see if the SmackDown Superstar wins another world title this Saturday.
