Kevin Owens will challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Bash in Berlin. However, former WWE employee Tommy Carlucci thinks Jey Uso would have been a better opponent for The American Nightmare.
Last Friday on SmackDown, Rhodes expressed his desire to have Owens as his next challenger. The Prizefighter initially turned down the opportunity, claiming he did not deserve it based on his win/loss record. However, he later reluctantly accepted after a discussion with The American Nightmare and SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis.
On the Behind The Turnbuckle: The Last Word podcast, Tommy Carlucci criticized the match's booking, mentioning that there was no story. Meanwhile, he said he would have liked to see Rhodes appear on RAW and challenge someone else, suggesting the name of Jey Uso.
"I rather see Jey Uso go against Cody than I see KO facing Cody," he said. [14:33 - 14:38]
Will Kevin Owens turn heel at WWE Bash in Berlin?
The Prizefighter has helped Cody Rhodes in his heated feud with Solo Sikoa's version of The Bloodline. However, many now expect him to turn on The American Nightmare.
On the Notsam Wrestling podcast, WWE analyst Sam Roberts predicted that Owens would turn heel after suffering a loss to Rhodes at Bash in Berlin. He said it would be the only way the former Universal Champion would become a true threat to The American Nightmare's gold.
"If I had to make a bold prediction as to where I see this going, I see Kevin Owens getting downright despicable. Because to be a true threat to Cody Rhodes' championship, Kevin Owens has to get downright despicable. I think, if it were me, I would say make this the moment that the Cody Rhodes character learns that he's been naive as a champion, that he's been sitting there trusting everybody, and start creating the scenario where Cody Rhodes realizes this is way tougher than he thought it would be and it is lonely on top," he said.
Meanwhile, WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry believes Owens would have a "straightforward" match against Rhodes, claiming the company needs The Prizefighter as a babyface. It would be interesting to see which prediction will be correct.
