Mark Henry became the fourth black world champion in WWE history when he won the ECW Championship in 2008. In an exclusive interview, the 53-year-old expressed his desire to see more African American representation in the wrestling industry.
Henry worked for WWE for 25 years before leaving in 2021. He recently departed AEW following a three-year stint with the company as a broadcast team member and coach.
Speaking to Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter, Henry raised concerns about black wrestlers not receiving enough opportunities in smaller promotions:
"You go to these places and these people have worked really hard to be fixtures in the pro wrestling world and they don't get the opportunity to prove what they really can do and how they really can work because they're working for a small company." [From 07:37 – 07:59]
Henry hopes to speak to a variety of wrestling companies to outline how he thinks black wrestlers can be better utilized:
"I wanna put the battery in the back of these companies and talk to the big companies and say, 'Hey, let's do better by the top three wrestlers in each company, and everybody else, you know, they have to work for it.' The top people need to be treated like top people." [From 8:01 – 8:20]

Mark Henry is working with another wrestling promotion
Keen to promote more African American talent, Mark Henry has made appearances for All Caribbean Wrestling (ACW) in recent weeks.
The WWE Hall of Famer also teased that he has an exciting project on the horizon. However, he is not yet allowed to reveal anything about it:
"I'm helping with All Caribbean Wrestling," Henry said. "I always wanted to see a pro wrestling company that had emphasis on African heritage, and there's things that I've got brewing that I'm not at liberty to talk about. It's double Secret Squirrel information. The world is gonna know that Mark Henry existed in this world outside of sports." [From 05:48 – 06:21]
In the same interview, Henry shared his opinion on how Rhea Ripley should react to Dominik Mysterio and Liv Morgan's recent developments.
