A backstage personality has explained how Clash at the Castle 2024 featured a moment that could change the course of Cody Rhodes' future in WWE. Backstage personality and host Sam Roberts thinks the seeds for The American Nightmare's heel turn were finally laid at the Glasgow premium live event, where he defeated AJ Styles.
The American Nightmare took on Styles in an I Quit match in the opening clash of the night that left Scottish fans on the edge of their seats. The duo even came to surpass what they achieved at Backlash 2024 in France last month. However, the outcome remained the same, as Cody Rhodes managed to retain his Undisputed WWE Title.
Rhodes showed an intense side of his in Glasgow, where he forced Styles to say "I Quit" after handcuffing The Phenomenal One to the rope and then threatening to attack him with steel steps. On his podcast, Notsam Wrestling, Sam Roberts explained that this could be the beginning of a change in Cody's character.
Roberts feels Cody Rhodes could start showing an edgier side of his more often in WWE, eventually culminating in him turning into a full-blown heel.

"Whether it takes until WrestleMania, or however long it takes, I want it to get to a point where Cody comes to a realization, 'If I do this, there's no turning back.' And then he does. And now Cody's changed forever. And that's when we get Homelander Cody. That's when we get evil Cody. That's when we get this Cody who goes, 'Why are you booing me?' That's where I want it to go eventually. Not quickly. That's where I want to get with Cody. And for the time at Clash at the Castle, when he was holding those steps, I saw signs of this is not the person you show yourself to be on television," said Roberts. [52:57 - 53:52]

Sam Roberts on Solo Sikoa challenging Cody Rhodes at Money in the Bank 2024
Elsewhere in the podcast, Sam Roberts also spoke about how Solo Sikoa appearing after Cody Rhodes' win at Clash at the Castle could result in a match between them. He stated that with Money in the Bank 2024 just around the corner, the promotion could have Cody and Sikoa have a showdown at the event.
"So The Bloodline takes out Cody Rhodes and it leads me to go, 'Oh, I wonder if Solo vs. Cody, maybe that's the Money in the Bank match, right? Maybe we don't have to wait until SummerSlam, it's at Money in the Bank," said Sam Roberts.
The upcoming episode of SmackDown could paint a clearer picture of what WWE has in store for The American Nightmare and The Bloodline leader.
