Matt Hardy shared the ring with CM Punk several times in WWE between 2006 and 2010. In a recent podcast episode, the former WWE star gave his thoughts on how The Best in the World might be perceived by the end of 2025.
In November 2023, Punk re-signed with WWE almost a decade after sensationally quitting the company due to creative frustrations and ongoing injuries. The 46-year-old's surprise return came two months after a backstage altercation with Jack Perry in AEW, which resulted in his firing.
Many people thought Punk would cause issues after returning to WWE, but that has not been the case. On The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Hardy predicted that The Straight Edge Superstar will continue to restore his reputation this year:
"At the end of 2025, CM Punk will be looked at within WWE as a role model employee for the company. He'll have a year where he goes through happy, content, and there won't be any issues with him." [32:01 – 32:16]

On January 6, Punk will face long-term rival Seth Rollins in the main event on the first episode of RAW on Netflix.
Matt Hardy compares CM Punk's AEW and WWE spells
In 2022, Matt Hardy worked for AEW when CM Punk's behind-the-scenes incident with The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega stole the headlines after All Out. The current RAW star also had real-life issues with Adam Page and Colt Cabana.
After several high-profile confrontations in AEW, Hardy thinks Punk no longer has to worry about backstage politics in WWE:
"I think, more than anything else, just the atmosphere that he's in, probably the way he's been utilized, just the authority structure, it's gonna come off in WWE much more solid and much more stable than it was in AEW. That's the first thing that really comes to mind when I start thinking about that." [32:45 – 33:08]
Hardy added that Punk "looks like he's having a great time" at recent WWE live events. He also recalled how his former co-worker "seemed very stressed" during his AEW stint.
