Maven Huffman wrestled for WWE between 2001 and 2005. The popular star recently discussed the perks of working for the company, including how much money he received in royalty payments.
Before the WWE Network launched in 2014, former superstars earned a significant amount of money every three months thanks to royalties for old DVD and video sales. Wrestlers also received paychecks if fans bought their merchandise.
Maven said on his YouTube channel that he earned $63 in his most recent royalty check from the company:
"Once the WWE put out the Network, I will be honest, royalty payments for me took a nosedive, and I know from talking to other former wrestlers, their royalty payments took a nosedive as well. As a matter of fact, the last royalty check I got was $63. But, even still, the fact that I'm getting checks for a job I haven't done in almost 20 years, I'm eternally grateful and it still kinda shocks me to this day." [8:44 – 9:13]
Maven is best known for winning the first season of the Tough Enough reality show in 2001. He also feuded with The Undertaker in a memorable 2002 storyline.
Maven's previous WWE royalty check amount
After his release in 2005, Maven received thousands of dollars in royalties. Although the figure often changed, the 48-year-old knew he was guaranteed a consistent income four times a year.
Maven appreciated that he received additional money long after his full-time days as an in-ring competitor ended:
"Freshly removed from leaving the WWE, I was getting handsome royalty payments of anywhere from $2,000-$5,000 every three months, and this was a check that I knew it was gonna fluctuate, it was gonna go up and down, but it was for work I had already done. I didn't have to do anything else. It was something that I looked forward to and even waited on, in some cases." [8:17 – 8:43]
In the same episode, Maven recalled how Randy Orton and others had a special privilege taken away after losing world titles.
