Mercedes Mone (formerly known as Sasha Banks) was in the main event at the NJPW Resurgence event on May 21, 2023. Unfortunately, the superstar had to be carried to the backstage area after the match following an injury. Mone has now commented on her situation.
Mone advanced to the NJPW Strong Women's Championship finals by defeating Stephanie Vaquer. Mone and Willow Nightingale faced each other on Sunday, where the former IWGP Women's Champion suffered a broken ankle.
Following the show, Mercedes Mone took to Twitter to address her injury. She apologized to her fans in the tweet and said she would heal and be back better than ever. You can view her post below:
Mone made her debut in NJPW on January 4, 2023, after walking out of WWE in May 2022, along with former WWE Superstar Naomi.
The Boss won seven singles championships and three tag titles during her storied WWE tenure. It did not take her long to shine in the NJPW either, as she won the IWGP Women's Championship on February 18, 2023.
How did the final between Mercedes Mone and Willow Nightingale end?
Even after suffering an injury, Mone gave a good fight. But unfortunately for her fans, Nightingale pinned The Boss with a powerbomb to win the match and the title.
Nightingale, who became the first-ever NJPW Strong Women's Champion, showed she was a good sport. The AEW star took to Twitter to show her love and appreciation for her opponent and even wished her well for her recovery.
It's hard to say how long Mercedes Mone will be out of action. However, fans know that the future is bright for the superstar and hope she will be able to come back stronger than ever.
We at Sportskeeda want to wish her good luck and a speedy recovery.
