Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes recently discussed his on-screen character. He claimed that although he is a babyface, many believe his appearance and attitude are more fit for a heel.
The American Nightmare is arguably the top babyface superstar on the current roster. Nevertheless, many fans and experts, including former WWE head writer Vince Russo, have pointed out how close the 39-year-old's character is to a heel. Hall of Famer Rikishi has also expressed his desire to see Rhodes turn villain.
In a recent interview with Vegas Revealed to promote WrestleMania 41, The American Nightmare admitted that several fans do not understand why he is a babyface despite having many traits usually linked to heel superstars. However, he claimed he was lucky to be an old-school babyface:
"There's a large portion of the audience that doesn't understand why I'm not a heel because they think like he's got like the bleach blond hair, all the suits, I try to have like an advanced vernacular when I'm speaking. All these things typically go with like, 'Well, like, we boo that guy.' For some reason, it just goes the other way at WWE. Again, our fans control the pace of our product, so they like all this stuff. I don't know. Most people would say that's definitely a heel, he's a bad guy down in there, you know, but no, I'm lucky enough to be an old-school babyface," he said. [From 18:54 to 19:25]

Cody Rhodes will face Gunther at WWE Crown Jewel
Cody Rhodes will square off against the World Heavyweight Champion Gunther in a champion versus champion match for the Crown Jewel Title next Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
WWE analyst Sam Roberts predicted the outcome of the upcoming clash between The American Nightmare and The Ring General on his Notsam Wrestling podcast, claiming the latter would emerge victorious after interference from Kevin Owens:
"So, for sure Gunther's winning that big giant title. Kevin Owens is going interfere, and then yeah, that leads us to KO vs. Cody at Survivor Series," he said.
The Prizefighter will face Randy Orton at Crown Jewel. It would be interesting to see if he will also play a decisive role in Rhodes' match against Gunther.
