WWE has often repacked wrestlers and given them new on-screen names. A popular SmackDown Superstar recently revealed why she changed her name after returning to the wrestling promotion in 2022.
WWE Superstar Michin used to wrestle as Mia Yim during her first stint at the Stamford-based company. Unfortunately, she was released from her contract in 2021. However, the 35-year-old re-signed with the global juggernaut the following year.
On her return to Monday Night RAW in November 2022, Mia Yim attacked Rhea Ripley and aligned with The O.C. to help them fight The Judgment Day. In February 2023, her ring name was changed to Michin, meaning crazy in Korean. In the latest episode of Casual Conversations with The Classic, she explained the reason behind the name change.
Michin stated that everyone in The O.C. had a nickname. So, she was also asked to have one. The former TNA Knockouts Champion revealed that her mother used to call her and her sister Michin, which made her choose the name.
Former WWE writer buries Judgment Day HERE
"I know that The O.C. has their own [nicknames]. Especially when they wrestled in Japan, they had their own nicknames and stuff. So when I came back and joined them, they were like, 'You need a nickname. Like, that’s just part of the crew.' So, Michin is something that I’ve had since I was a kid, from my mom. She would call me and my sister crazy, obviously. So, to me, it was my choice picking this name. A lot of people ask why I don’t go back to Mia Yim, and I’m okay with that, too. But I want everyone to know that Michin is special to me because of my mom," she said. [From 8:42 to 9:20]

Michin recently lost a WWE championship match
Michin faced Chelsea Green in the Final of the WWE Women's United States Championship tournament. The two SmackDown Superstars locked horns at Saturday Night's Main Event.
Michin and Green were involved in a back-and-forth contest, which saw the two stars trade blows. The contest ended after a distraction from Piper Niven allowed The Hot Mess to deliver a modified Unprettier off the top rope, scoring the win to become the inaugural WWE Women's United States Champion.
Michin had defeated Chelsea Green in a Dumpster match earlier this year, which might help her get a shot at the newly crowned champion.
