The Rock returned to WWE earlier this year with a new contract and a Board of Directors spot with TKO Group Holdings. The wrestling legend ended up working a lengthy storyline for WrestleMania XL, and planted the seeds for future return storylines. Now a popular WWE Superstar has made pitched a big idea for The Great One, but it might not be the usual kind of pitch he receives from within the company. The star mentioned here Lola Vice.
The Rock is widely regarded as WWE's biggest success story when it comes to making the transition to Hollywood. With an acting career nearing 23 years now, the actor has close to 50 films under his belt, and more than a dozen TV shows. Lola Vice is one of the up-and-coming WWE Superstars with a significant fanbase. The 4-1 Bellator MMA fighter joined WWE in August 2022 and made her in-ring debut later that year. She began working Level Up the following January, and then the main NXT TV show that summer. Vice went on to win the 2023 Women's Breakout Tournament.
The Strike Artist is open about her character. Speaking to Under The Ring, the 25-year-old was asked how the "Lola Vice" ring name came about, and why she liked it. The Miami-born grappler, who was recently praised by a WWE legend, revealed how the last name was inspired by hit cop drama Miami Vice, which aired in the late 1980s with Don Johnson as James "Sonny" Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs.
"So, I came up with the name. I gave 10 first names and 10 last names. 'Lola' was my Cuban nail lady from when I was little. I thought it was cute, it's Hispanic, and it's easy for anyone to pronounce. So, I loved the name, and 'Vice' is inspired by the Miami Vice series back in the 1980s. Everything of mine is pink and blue like the Miami Vice jerseys from the NBA's Miami Heat, so I thought 'Lola Vice' is a perfect way to represent where I'm from and what my character is about," Lola Vice said. The self-proclaimed Master was then asked about dream partners. She chose Eddie Guerrero from the past, and from the current era, she went with Randy Orton, praising The Viper for his in-ring style and timing, as well as his explosiveness. Vice went on to describe Orton as incredible, humble, and down to Earth, but then she remembered to mention her pitch to The Rock. The flyweight division MMA fighter went on about how she wants to re-make Miami Vice with The Final Boss.
"I also forgot to mention, of course... The Rock. I would like to, and I know this is crazy, but one day, I would like to re-make the Miami Vice series from the 80s, with The Rock. I would love to do that. [host commented on how they put the idea out there] You have to manifest it, you know? [laughs]." [From 19:36 to 19:53]
Vice is set to compete against Shayna Baszler in the second-ever women's NXT Underground Match at NXT Battleground this weekend. She was praised after winning the first NXT Underground bout in the women's division back in April, defeating Natalya.
